Join us at the Urban Ministry Center at 945 N. College in downtown Charlotte, North Carolina on Tuesdays and Fridays at 9:45am in The Depot Building (to the right of the main building) for runner recruitment, shoe dispersal and pre-run stretching. Following each run, we  conduct a skill-building workshop focusing on: self esteem, boundaries, playing with heart, showing up, discipline, respect for yourself and others, handling setbacks, unconditional love, interview skills or assertion versus aggression. We leave the UMC shortly after 10am each time, and arrive back at the Center by 11 for our pre-lunch discussion.

We welcome volunteers and donations of shoes, shorts, t-shirts and new socks at any of these runs—or, at one of our drop-off locations conveniently located in all areas of town:

TrySports (SouthPark)

721 Governor Morrison, Suite 150

InsideOut Sports (SouthEnd)

1514 S. Church Street #102

Performance Therapy (Pineville)

Charlotte Athletic Club (Downtown)

TrySports Charlotte (Blakeney)

On Fridays, we continue to build on what we discussed on Tuesdays, but in addition address what each Neighbor sees as his or her biggest challenge of the week. We discuss any positive or negative happenings of the past few days as we approach each traffic light, or regroup at circle time in the park. A huge incentive for the group is our Friday trips to the Greenway or Freedom Park in the van. When a Neighbor “shows up” for three runs in a row, he or she will be allowed to keep the shoes/shorts thereby creating a sense of ownership and place, and rewarding him/her for the discipline required to attend each session.
