The Charlotte community has a well-earned reputation for being among the most charitable communities in the nation.
According our friends at Share Charlotte, local residents completed an incredible 1,076,837 acts of GOOD during last year’s annual #GivingTuesdayCLT campaign. That’s a significant number because it coincides with Mecklenburg County’s estimated population for 2018.
#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. #GivingTuesday is celebrated the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and officially kicks off the charitable giving season. Since 2014, Share Charlotte, organizer of the local #GivingTuesdayCLT campaign, has influenced $20 million in gifts benefitting hundreds of local nonprofit organizations, including RunningWorks.
Last year, our first year of participation, the RunningWorks Team was named campaign MVP after successfully raising $30,000 to provide a year of transportation to 30 team members in need of assistance getting to and from work, school, and health appointments.
However, #GivingTuesday is not all about fundraising. People give in a variety of ways from donating tangible goods and in-kind services to volunteering their time and using social media platforms to spread awareness and support of local causes.
The message of this year’s #GivingTuesdayCLT campaign will be a celebration of philanthropy, which can be defined as the desire to promote the welfare of others for the public good with a focus on improving quality of life. It’s an expression of love for humanity.
If you are interested in doing some GOOD in your community and looking for ways to use your time, talent and treasure to make a difference in the life of a neighbor in need, visit the RunningWorks profile on the ShareCharlotte.org website for ways to get involved.
