RW kicks off annual winter clothing drive for neighbors in need

Dozens of people from all over the Charlotte area participated in the inaugural Strip It To Give It 5k Race on Saturday, January 5. Runners showed up dressed in extra layers of clothes and warm winter wear which they later striped off during the race for charity. Items collected will be distributed to neighbors in need during our annual CLT Runs 4Wards event.

The RunningWorks Team would like to thank Katie Gregory, creator of Strip it To Give It, for having the vision to put such an amazing event together. We would also like to thank our sponsors Trinity Partners and Cardinal Innovations Healthcare whose support made the event possible.

Special shout out to our RunningWorks Clubs from Charlotte Country Day and Providence Day Schools who always make an effort to show up in force to each race.

“It goes without saying that it would not have been so special without the outpouring of participation from the Charlotte community for our homeless men, women and children,” said RunningWorks Founder and Executive Director Meredith Dolhare. “We are so grateful to everyone who sponsored, donated, raced, stripped, volunteered and cheered yesterday. Next year’s race is going to be off the charts!”

In all, we collected thousands of clothing items for distribution during the CLT Runs 4Wards event in February. During this annual event, the RunningWorks team run/walks the city’s four wards distributing much-needed warm winter wear along with toiletries and other items such as resource pamphlets to help the area’s homeless.
