Please join us next week for CLT Runs 4wards. During this annual event, the RunningWorks Team takes to the streets of Uptown to run (and walk) the city’s four wards to distribute warm winter wear, toiletries and other much-needed items along with community resource pamphlets to help those experiencing homelessness in our community.
This year’s two-day event will be held Tuesday, February 19 and Wednesday, February 27. Each day, the team will meet at 5:00 pm at RWHQ, located at 901-E North Tryon Street, to assemble care packages before hitting the streets. We hope you can join us. For more information about volunteering, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Donations are welcome. While we have many items on hand, we are still in need of blankets, water bottles, hats and gloves. If you can’t join us on February 19 or 27, online donations can be made here.
The event is the brainchild of fitness enthusiast and social advocate Asheton “Smasheton” Brown. Three years ago, she approached RW Founder and Executive Director Meredith Dolhare with a novel idea. She wanted to pack hundreds of bags filled with blankets, toiletry items and other necessities for individuals and families in need.
Each February since then, the RunningWorks Team (many of whom have experienced the harsh realities of homelessness firsthand) participate in the annual event as a way of giving back to their community.
Our team is so thankful for our wonderful community partners who rise to the occasion each year to help put on this amazing event. To our friends at Strip It 2 Give It, Jimmy Core Foundation, Elevation Church, Procter & Gamble and all of those in the community who help make the work we do possible – THANK YOU. To Asheton and Katie Gregory (founder of Strip It 2 Give It), we appreciate your vision and creativity. Thank you tremendously for all that you do. We look forward to another successful year for CLT Runs 4Wards.
