One of the many great things about RunningWorks is that we are not only changing lives one stride at a time, but we also have a lot of fun along the way. A core value of our program is volunteerism. We are always looking for ways to stay engaged in our community and give back. Our team goes out and volunteers at various events throughout the year to help raise awareness of the need to address the impact of hunger, homelessness and poverty in our community. These events also provide a means for us to raise funds to help further our mission in the community. We invite you to join us at an upcoming race or event. Here’s a look at what’s on the calendar for the remainder of 2018:
3rd Annual 12-Hour Run to End Hunger & Homelessness
June 6 @ The City Square (Corner of Trade and Tryon St.)
Each year, the RunningWorks Team organizes a race on Global Running Day (the first Wednesday in June) to raise awareness of how hunger, homelessness and poverty affect families in the Carolinas.
Beginning at 6 a.m., RunningWorks team members, many of whom are experiencing or have experienced homelessness, along with dozens of community volunteers and supporters, will run relay-style loops around Center City for 12 hours in an united effort to combat hunger and homelessness in our community.
This year, we will are collecting personal hygiene items – such as deodorant, razors, wipes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, travel size lotions, etc. – to help our neighbors in need for the summer.
Donations can be dropped off at our tent, which will be set up 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. on the corner of Trade and Tryon Streets. Volunteer and sponsorship opportunities are available. Please email email@example.com or call (980) 500-8RUN for more information. (READ MORE)

Metamorphosis 2018: The Social Butterfly Experiment
September 22 @ LaCa Projects
This very unique fashion event, showcasing the collections of Luis Machicao, usually features professional models walking alongside many of the homeless men and women who participate in the RunningWorks program. However, this year, we are shaking things up a bit. RunningWorks has selected 10 dynamic influencers from the community to serve as mentors to program participants over the summer and walk the runway this fall with their mentees.
Metamorphosis is our biggest fundraiser of the year. All proceeds go towards helping RunningWorks further our mission of using sport and education to empower individuals and families to break cycles of abuse, neglect, homelessness and poverty one stride at a time. We chose the name Metamorphosis, because it so symbolic of the change being made in the lives of the homeless individuals and families will work with each day. Volunteer and sponsorship opportunities are available. Please contact us at info @runningworks.org for more information. (READ MORE)

Novant Health Charlotte Marathon
November 3 @ Romare Bearden Park
The Charlotte Marathon is an annual tradition or the RunningWorks Team. We have had runners competing and the full and half marathon since our organization’s inception. Our team looks forward to this event each year, and we have found that with the greater the distance and challenge of each race they complete, the more likelier they are to achieve their goals in life, from overcoming addiction to transitioning out of homelessness.
The Charlotte Marathon features five different races: the marathon, half-marathon, marathon relay, 5K, and kid’s 1-mile run. Runners experience the sights and sounds of the Southeast’s fastest growing city, including the Queen City’s signature tree lined streets, historic landmarks, major sporting venues and the most eclectic neighborhood parties. The race finishes in the heart of Uptown Charlotte at Romare Bearden Park. With entertainment along the course, major headliners at the finish line festival, and five distance options, it’s a race for all runners! (READ MORE)
