As we get ready for summer, the RunningWorks team is closing out its Spring 2017 racing season with a bang!
Our team was honored to have been selected as the charity beneficiary of the Hunstad Kortesis Mother’s Day 5k produced by Sisu Events. This annual event, which was held May 14, draws hundreds of families to South Charlotte each year to celebrate motherhood and promote healthy families.
This year marks the third in a row that the Steve Smith Family Foundation has invited our team to participate in its annual Memorial Day event, the Lace Up Son 5k, held on May 19. The race raises funds to support the foundation’s child healthcare and wellness programs. These programs promote healthy lifestyles by providing youth with opportunities to engage in activities they may not otherwise be able to afford.
Other highlights from this spring include hosting our very first program at the new RW Headquarters and volunteering to work with over 30 students at the Palmetto School at Children’s Attention Home during Field Day, held the week of May 22-26. The Palmetto School provides K-8 education for youth residing at Children’s Attention Home, an emergency shelter for children who have been removed from their homes due to neglect, abuse and abandonment. This school year, RunningWorks took over operations of the school’s physical education program. As the school year comes to a close, we are already looking forward to returning in the fall.
